How far do you guys let the bottom two fingers come off the stick when executing strokes with the left hand trad grip? I've lately found a greater sense of security by keeping the bottom two more closely connected to the stick. Interestingly, it doesn't sem to impede the natural rebound of the stick too badly at all. Any thoughts?

I don't use trad anymore but did
for over 25 years and when I did,
I had lots of contact between the
stick and my ring-finger, for ad-
ded control. This is something
that Tony insisted on, though he
would have preferred me to switch
to matched entirely, at the time.

.....looks down at left hand........
Well, its seems the two bottom fingers don't to much at all. I mean, the stick is resting on the ring finger, but it's just there and the pinky isn't doing anything.
To me, those fingers shouldn't do anything. They should just lay there naturally. They are more or less just "guiding" the stick up when using the rebound of the drum. To "grip" or press the ring finger against the stick for more control puts stress on the wrist. Try it. I feel my wrist tightening up. Stay nice, loose and natural!
See ya.

other than the fact that it looks better to keep the fingers on, I don't think it makes any difference.
Most guys let go with those 2 fingers.
